The Kansas City Royals have traded Brandon Moss and left-hander Ryan Buchter to the Oakland Athletics for right-handers Jesse Hahn and Heath Fillmyer.

Moss is owed $8.25 million for 2018 and the Royals included $3.25 million in the deal to offset that.

The Royals could use the savings as they continue to attempt to re-sign Eric Hosmer.

The Miami Marlins continue their fire sale, trading Christian Yelich to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Yelich is the fourth starter to be traded by the Marlins as they reduce payroll and rebuild under new CEO Derek Jeter.

The Marlins acquired highly regarded outfielder Lewis Brinson, infielder Isan Diaz, outfielder Monte Harrison and right-handed pitcher Jordan Yamamoto. Brinson, Diaz and Harrison were rated among Milwaukee's top 10 prospects.

"There was a lot of stuff this offseason that was out of the norm," Yelich said. "For me it's almost more of a relief that it's over, and get back to playing baseball and doing what I love to do. ... I'm just excited for the fresh start."

Yelich will make $7 million this season in the third year of a $49.57 million, seven-year deal.

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired Randal Grichuk from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for pitchers Dominic Leone and Conner Greene.

Grichuk expressed disappointment to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he was slated to be the fourth outfielder for the Cardinals earlier this week.

The Houston Astros have boosted their rotation by completing a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates for Gerrit Cole.

Pittsburgh will receive right-handers Joe Musgrove and Michael Feliz, third baseman Colin Moran and outfielder Jason Martin.

"Trading Gerrit Cole was not an easy decision. We are very appreciative for what Gerrit has done for our team and organization, especially his important role on the 2013-15 playoff teams," Neal Huntington said in a news release. "Acquiring these four quality young players, three of whom we project to be an important part of our 2018 team, with many years of potential contribution, is an important step for us as we work toward bringing playoff baseball back to our fans."

Cole, 27, went 12-12 with a 4.26 ERA, 196 strikeouts and 55 walks while making a career-high 33 starts in 2017.

The Astros are adding Cole to a rotation that ranked sixth in the majors last season in ERA, WHIP, strikeout percentage and opponent batting average.

The Toronto Blue Jays are acquiring second baseman Yangervis Solarte in a trade with San Diego, the Padres announced Saturday.

In return, the Padres will get a pair of prospects in outfielder Edward Olivares and right-hander Jared Carkuff.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired Scott Alexander from the Kansas City Royals in a three-team trade involving the Chicago White Sox as well.

The White Sox received Luis Avilan, Joakim Soria and cash. The Dodgers also landed prospect Jake Peter, while the Royals added Trevor Oaks and Erick Mejia.
